double

In the early days of film, actors like Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin did all their owns stunts.
When the actors became too "valuable", the studios started hiring stunt doubles.
Now DreamWorks has begun hiring stunt doubles for their "valuable" animated characters.
What next?? Really... I just wanted an excuse to come up with my own version of Shrek :o)

  2. Hi Jack!! I thought you'd be great at this one! (I thought you'd do something with twins and double-mint gum!) We love Shrek around here-- the world needs more Shreks.

(What's with all the numbery comments, anyway? Doubly annoying-- now you really can't delete it or your next comment-ers will think I'm looney-- well, go ahead, maybe I am!!)

  3. I think it is a pretty good excuse...i've been watching a lot of Bonanza this summer and always laugh when the stunt double comes in during a fight scene..."Oh, I'm sorry...I wasn't supposed to notice the guy's haircut change, he grew 5 inches, and put on 40 pounds...

  18. Hurrok Jack :) You know, Shrek is really funny. Now we have two funny shrecks -- umm where am I going with this?

    Now where :)

    Let's start again.
Just love the idea of the stunt doubles. And the idea extrapolated into it's nth degree - the fun of having an animated stunt double, double fun

when do we see some 2d animation? Looking forward to that - that should crack us all up. :) :)

  25. haha...That's a good excuse :D
Love how you make the character your own style.
Even cartoons are so spoiled now...they should learn of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck who used to do their own stunts.

  32. Thanks for the chuckles this week Jack! your shreks have a special look to them. Your own style shines through. I can imagine these two having a song and dance routine somwthing like what a Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly team might have pulled off.

  33. Jack, my friend, my buddy. This is a wondeful illustration! Love your take on Shrek!! Two are better than one, that's for sure. Truly your Jack style in this great piece..and the concept is fun! It's strange to catch those stunt double look-alikes on old films, isn't it?

Well I just have to say, THANK YOU so much for your kind, amazing, fantastic, incredibly generous words at my place recently. I am so just speechless about the reaction to the site so far. I really am just tickled pink, honored, and so just blown away by the kindness of my friends out here in blogland. You are a gem. I just wanted to tell you how much it means to me..from the bottom of my heart, I am just so happy and thankful to have discovered your wonderful art, but more importantly become friends with such a genuinely giving person. Thank you, my talented friend...you are just the best. : )
